An Intro to the Writings of Wendell Berry Join us in reading The Art of the Commonplace Starting Next Week

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me

and I wake in the night at the least sound

in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,

I go and lie down where the wood drake

rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.

I come into the peace of wild things

who do not tax their loves with forethought

of grief. I come into the presence of still water.

And I feel above me the day-blind stars

waiting with their light. For a time

I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Wendell Berry has been called, “the prophetic American voice of our day.

New York Times said, “Read with pencil in hand, make notes and hope that somehow our country and world will soon come to see the truth that is told here.”

Michael loves Flannery O’conner, she is a bit dark for me but I think really gifted. As for Wendell Berry you will love his novels I think you and Mike would both get a lot from this book. He offers a really interesting perspective that I think would jive with some of the things y’all have been thinking on in recent years. I’d love for you to read along and share your thoughts!
